The Haytor Hotel Environmental Policy

  • We are members of the Proud to be Green Scheme as an ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and tourism.
  • We are sourcing food and drink from local business wherever possible, thereby reducing our food miles.
  • We train, encourage and support our staff to value and participate in sustainable business practices.
  • We expect similar environmental standards from suppliers and contractors we use.
  • We encourage, inform and assist our guests to reduce their impact on the environment whilst staying at The Haytor Hotel and when they leave.
  • Each day thousands of towels are washed unnecessarily, using massive quantities of detergents, water and energy. To help protect our environment, we ask that guests re-use their towels where appropriate.
  • We Encourage Green tourism through local walks and are close to main harbour so guests do not need to use their cars to attend restaurants and bars.
  • We use cardboard straws and plastic-free bags, glass containers in our kitchens and refillable toiletries in the bedrooms.
  • We use low energy led lights throughout our hotel
  • We have installed a new economical water and heating system and regularly service all our heating and boiler systems.
  • We use local contractors for our refurbishment programs
  • We recycle all glass, plastic, metal, card, paper and all food waste – diverting away from landfill.

Guests can help us by:

  • Switching off lights
  • Not leaving the TV on standby
  • Unplug phone charges when not in use
  • Close the windows when heating is on
  • Turn off taps when cleaning teeth or shaving.
  • Boil only the amount of water you need
  • Recycle as much as possible
  • Only change towels when required.
